We’re a big fan of Serena Hotels, having stayed at many of them over the years and throughout our travels. Finding a good hotel group in more adventurous countries can be a challenge, especially if you’re traveling on something of a budget. Not to say Serena hotels are cheap, they tend toward the middle high end, but they are all very comfortable with excellent service and good food.
To borrow from their own mission statement – “Our Mission is to create outstanding facilities faithfully reflecting ethnic designs that offer the highest standards of product and service and to provide Management and staff with an environment that enables them to deliver operating standards beyond the level of our guests’ expectations.” We left out the part about “return to shareholders”.
To date the company has 35 hotels in eight countries. While we have not yet been to those in the Middle East, we can wholeheartedly recommend their African properties.
Two of our personal favorites, The Zanzibar Serena is an excellent place to park yourself for exploring Stone Town. The Kirawira Serena tented camp in the Serengeti is fantastic.
The Ngorongoro Serena is also a good bet if you can’t get in to the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge.
We’re planning on doing individual writes ups on these in the very near future.
