A tough one to be categorized, but something that can hardly be ignored, the recent opening of Frank Gehry’s Fondation Louis Vuitton Outside Paris – part museum, but ultimately an homage to the LVMH chief Bernard Arnault. I have a general fear and self-loathing that comes from reading Architectural digest, but truth be told, I do have a subscription and that is where I found the full page spread on the final product. I’ve also been doing some modest reading of the reviews online and it seems that they are equally divided as to opinion – yes the building is gorgeous, but on the flip side it fails as a museum. Combine those two and I think we see that these buildings are now simply monuments to the individuals themselves, the architects and their patrons. There was an excellent similar analysis in The Social Gazette.
We’ve choice picked some photos of the Fondation and hopefully you can make your own decision / opinion.
