We thought it was appropriate that with the Fourth of July not too far off we might give some coverage on the Nations Capitol. Washington DC is an amazing city to visit, with noodles of cultural opportunities, variously good restaurants and accommodation. The down side to visiting DC for the Fourth, is that of course this is a very popular time to do so. Realistically we would recommend avoiding crowds, and thus avoiding DC on Independence Day, but that’s up to you.
For a quick little run down – the city is very walkable, although the distance can be deceptively large. The best suggestion we can give is to chop up your visit into three days. One where perhaps you do the Mall in its entirety, a walk around of all the monuments, which is a nice afternoon. A full day for the museums / Smithsonian. And of course finally, I guess lets group them all together and say government houses. This is a very doable schedule / plan and will not kill you while still giving you ample time to see the city, hit a couple of restaurants and nightlife spots.
