Following up on our initial entry on visiting Washington DC, here are a couple of recommendations on boutique hotels that are worth a quick look. Most of these are north of the White House between Dupont and Logan Circles. All of these are reasonably good and in good distance of the sights.
Hotel Rouge – is a Kimpton Hotel, a brand which is well known for being boutique, without being common. Most of the rooms are very spacious and comfortable with a good evening scene.
Hotel Helix – is the second Kimpton Hotel in Washington, a little closer to Logan Circle – again, very nice rooms, service, scene.
The Mansion on O Street – is a quirky Victorian style spot a block off of Dupont Circle.
The Jefferson – Can hardly be called a boutique hotel in the sense that there is anything funky or cool about it, but it is very comfortable and classic, with an independent atmosphere – ie. not chain hotel.
We’ll toss out two suggestion in Georgetown, since this is also a very popular area to visit, although not particularly close to the tourist areas.
The Graham – is more or less right on M Street, the main drag through Georgetown. Step right outside your door and everything the neighborhood has to offer is at your feet. The rooftop bar / restaurant is a great area to eat and relax.
The Georgetown Inn – while a few blocks away from the “strip” is more traditional, which at this point is boutique in and of itself. The rooms are very plush and comfortable. A little more quiet.
