A Dream Vacation to Paris
It is quite surprising that it took me so many years to visit Paris even after being told that the city is the most romantic place in Europe and the world. I have always had a burning desire to visit Paris for no apparent reason but a collection of things that draw my attention to the city.
I wanted to experience the French cuisine, amazing architecture, fashion and everything else that the French city has to offer. My fascination with Paris was also driven by two great films – Martin Scorsese’s Hugo and Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris that depicted the city in a similar manner that most people did.
Most of my friends wrote down lists detailing some of the activities that I should do while in Paris but according to me, those are the things they would have done but I had other ideas in mind. Despite me little knowledge of Paris, I did everything I could to aggressively accomplish every activity on my ‘to do’ list but I still wasn’t able to exhaust everything.
Sample the Best French Cuisine
France is one of the countries around the world that is best known for its food. In fact, food lovers across the world come together to sample the Paris food culture and cuisine. Some of the most popular French cuisine include the Classic French Cuisine, Haute Cuisine, Nouvelle Cuisine and Cuisine du Terrorir. Make no surprises that the food you take in Paris is greatly dependent on how much you are willing to spend.
As I came to learn, those willing to splash cash on food should go to upmarket areas such as Champs Elysees and Montmartre. There are people who love food but would not want to necessarily spend a fortune to enjoy their favorite delicacies.
While in Paris, I was advised to find a mid-tier restaurant and walk a few meters away from it. I would then watch the average prices of food plummet by over 50% before making an order. Here, you find some of the most common French dishes such as Bouillabaisse, Ratatouille, Salade Niçoise and boeuf bourguignon.
Paris as a City of Art, Architecture and Fashion
During my two-day tour of Paris, I managed to visit the Notre Dame Cathedral, had launch on a barge on the Siene River and took a stroll along Rive Gauche. My trip to Paris would however have been inconclusive had I not visited the popular Eiffel Tower and the Arch De Triumph.
I also took some time and went shopping at the Champs Elysees and later took a walk through the Jardin du Luxemboug. Many of the places that I visited were just like how I had envisioned them to be if not even more breathtaking. I was looking forward to visiting the Paris Opera House which I did except that I could not find the entrance to the sewers. I also never managed to access the Louvre or even to watch the Moulin Rouge performance.
This however, did not dampen my vacation spirit since I was aware that it would only be a matter of time before I came back to Paris. My choice for a hotel is always a boutique hotel. Not that I would relish the idea of staying in a place like the Hilton but to me, smaller hotels are more in touch with the customers and offer more personalized services.
After doing some research online, I settled for Les Jardins de la Villa – a boutique hotel in Paris that had some amazing reviews online. The locals in Paris are lively people driven by art, architecture and fashion. It was very easy to blend in into the Paris spirit and despite the time not being a holiday season, I couldn’t help but notice that everyday appeared like a holiday in Paris.
