A Brief Breeze Through Nice France

The Gorgeous Resort Town of Nice

If you have never experienced the beautiful landscape that is the town of Nice in France, you are seriously missing out. It is absolutely stunning. This magical city is the capital of the Alpes-Maritimes and the first thing we noticed upon stepping foot onto this beautiful destination were the gorgeous mediterranean pebble beaches. It is unbelievably charming and a breath of fresh air from its more urban Parisian counterpart. This is where artists go to settle down. The views are absolutely stunning and if you happen to make it during the Carnavale de Nice, you are in for a wonderful surprise.

This city has deep cultural roots and all of the beautiful architecture and charming design of a Woody Allen film. We felt like we had just been teleported into a different world. Additionally. there are tons of gorgeous and renowned museums featuring the most prominent artists in history such as Matisse. The best part – of the twenty some museums and galleries located in the area, all but one are free. That’s right. You can see the most beautiful works from some of the most world-renowned artists in history for absolutely no money at all. As an artist – that was my favorite part.

Fine Dining in Nice

France is world-renowned for its food and sits right next to the big hitters like Italy, Spain and India. I mean the food is absolutely to die for and if you are looking for a fine dining experience that you’ll never forget – you’re in the right place. Some of the best chefs in the world are French – and you will find them in this little city.

The food is fresh and natural – a nice break from the over processed diets that so many of us maintain back home in the good ol’ USA. Many of these areas have received notoriety in the world-renowned Michelin Guide and have received well-deserved stars. After all, it did originate in France in the first place – so they have some pretty hefty shoes to fill.

Some of the best restaurants in the area include the Auberge de La Madone, which is wonderful for a casual Sunday Lunch and offers an impeccable view of the Alpes-Maritimes. Jouni, a quaint little bistro in he port is also on the top of the list as well as L’Ane Rouge, which is another port-side restaurant that waws awarded a Michelin Star.

Regardless of where you travel – it is almost certain that given the context of the region you are in – you absolutely will not be disappointed. It was like heaven.

The Charming Culture of the French Riviera

Nice is known as a top spot for retirement for many reasons including its rich culture. There area offers a wonderful break from those who are used to urban living or have found the busy and often times chaotic streets of Paris to be a bit overwhelming. Nice is a little French gem unto itself.

If you happen to visit during the earlier part of the year then you absolutely must do it in February. We made it a point to get to the city in time to experience the Carnavale de Nice, a yearly event that is one of the biggest major carnival displays in the world. It is full of huge crazy looking floats and the entire atmosphere is just like one big party.

It ranks right alongside both the Brazilian and Venetian Carnival and is held every February. Every year a different theme is chosen and it is absolutely magical – much like Mardi Gras. However, be sure to book your tickets and reservations in advance because this is a world-renowned event and people from all over the world flock to the area just to experience the magical sight. It’s pretty crowded – so be sure to take a potty break before you leave your hotel.
